I would start with disabling all extensions and see if it's any better.I did just that--mostly only the stuff that comes with VS--and the problem went away. I had not previously noticed it getting better after restarts, but we do not always notice when things are working as they should. That at least gives me a means for investigation.

It seems like maybe some process gets started that just goes on crunching til I close VS. But I think it was the requisite restart that did it. WSL 2 with Visual Studio Code. But again, maybe it was extension related and has now resolved.

Before this, I frequently had yellow warning icons on several of my project references for no discernible reason. The problem was gone.I reenabled all extensions and restarted. Anyway, I am thinking it may just be a matter of time before it starts up again.
