But it isn't even approaching tense or scaryInteresting in that this deals with disability and alcoholism through two of the main characters - a father and daughter, which are themes that are not too often explored as seriously or deeply in movies of this genre. I have moved it directly on to my favorites shelf. The cast list is quite sizable but this tale doesn't include 'bit-part' players. So I’ve been working on an average of one Utterly Captivating Read every five years or so. They are important if someone, say, an author, wishes to convey a particular meaning or concept or image through the words they use in the books they want to sell. They take numerous tests to prepare them for war and life as a weapon for the empire. I like being able to have a change whilst reading, but I have to say, once I was into Blood Song, that was it.

And that ending, goodness gracious, am literally holding myself back so as to not start the second book immediately. This book really messed with my emotions.

In real life Reagan was closing down so many mental institutions and turning the streets into the asylums that they now are, & in cinema every couple of weeks another mental patient was escaping and going on killing sprees.

Yeah, this is to say A psychopath escapes from a mental asylum and goes on a killing rampage after having been locked up there for years as a consequence of witnessing his father kill his mother and then himself. This development is offset by a young handicapped girl who is seeing visions of all the grisly murders taking place, which we later discover is due to her receiving a blood transfusion and therefore the killer's 'bad blood', which now courses through her veins and enables her to 'see' what he sees (at certain choice intervals of course). So that handles the 'blood' element of the title. blood song review

[ I'm really stingy with my 5 star rating but this book would definitely have gotten one... if it wasn't for the Barkus reveal at the end.

It's one of the finest fantasy debuts I've ever read. Plus, they make me feel good, like I'm reading something worth my time, rather than some 6th grade creative writing exercise. Also there aren't much breaks between sentences so it's basically a whole page with one freakin' long paragraph. I don't know how she does it, but the author always takes a character I'm kinda on the fence about and turns them into one of my favorites! The rest is just monotone stuff, but what makes BLOOD SONG so damn special is it's german (vhs-)dubbing, which is freakin' nuclear in so many ways. His life was no day at the beach(sorry I couldn’t resist) at a young age he witnessed his father kill his mom and her lover before turning the gun on himself. There's a not-that-exciting chase scene late in the film that goes on waaaaaaaay too long, but otherwise BLOOD SONG is surprisingly well-paced and well-made. This works because the high schoolers actually look and act their age, and while the stakes aren't super high, the characters are likable enough to maintain some tension, even where visually the movie remains flat (save for some psychedelic transitions and a cool synth score). Blood Song is a powerful epic that, while ending with a sense of closure, hints at more to come (SFFWORLD) An utterly engrossing high-fantasy epic from a major new talent that explores … All in all Blood Song is definitely an average 80's slasher with some pretty interesting ideas but are flawed to say at least I would only recommend this if you're a huge fan of 80's slashers. My review video for "Blood Song" by Anthony Ryan, first book of Raven's Shadow series. Such a great follow-up! Before Rothfuss was Harry Potter, and that was a good number of years before Rothfuss.
