All traffic was temporarily held on M62 Eastbound between J29 and J30 after the incident at 2.33pm and delays were predicted until midnight. The M62 has been reopened, after a police incident closed the busy motorway in both directions for over six hours.It was closed in both directions from junction 35 Langham, to junction 36 Goole due to a police incident.There has been no official confirmation of what the incident was.Traffic was queueing and there was congestion to Rawcliffe in both directions as traffic diverts.There were three kilometres of traffic stuck on the motorway for a number of hours and traffic officers had to remove parts of the central reservation to allow vehicles to turn back.Photos and videos from the scene showed miles of queuing traffic, as some people took to social media to say that they had been stuck in their cars since around 5am today.Nearby roads around Snaith, East Cowick and Pincheon Green were also affected, as traffic was gridlocked through Rawcliffe.The road was closed at 5.45am and was reopened by 12.35 pm.The M62 has now reopened in both directions, as Highways England confirms that the incident has been cleared.We have still not had any official confirmation of what the incident was.Inrix tells us that the motorway remains closed, with long delays and queuing traffic still an issue.But they have suggested that officers are thought to be removing the closures shortly.All traffic that had been trapped has now been cleared, but delays remain.Traffic officers have removed part of the central reservation to allow trapped vehicles to move out and turn around.Trapped motorists have been taking to social media to share images of the miles and miles of queues ahead of them.Highways England have confirmed that they are in the process of turning traffic around, but the area is still gridlocked with traffic trapped for three kilometres.It will take “a number of hours” to turn all vehicles around, Highways England have said.Roads around Snaith and East Cowick have been affected by gridlocked traffic through Rawcliffe, with roads around Pincheon Green now also affected.Traffic is continuing to be released on the M62, as the carriageway between junction 35 and junction 36 remains closed in both directions.This from Inrix: “Rawcliffe is currently gridlocked along the A614 in both directions, as traffic diverts.”There has not yet been any further information on what the ‘police incident’ involves, but we will update you as soon as that information becomes available.The M62 carriageway remains closed in both directions between junction 35 and junction 36, with trapped traffic now being released.Release of trapped traffic is due to take a number of hours, Highways England have confirmed.Highways England have said there is currently three kilometres of traffic ‘trapped’ between junction 36 and the incident.They have said it will take “a number of hours” for them to turn the traffic around.Inrix advises there are now “major delays” through Rawcliffe in both directions.Our traffic partner, Inrix, advises that roads around Snaith and East Cowick are also affected by delays and congestion.Highways England have provided the following detailed diversion information:
