It is outrageous that the public is ‘expected to know’ the new arrangements. Glad it worked out this time – I did the same with the Congestion Charge once… sadly with no 14-day grace period.Have been reading through these comments…my situation is I crossed twice last Saturday and twice last Sunday. Received confirmation by e-mail.We had friends travel from the Czech republic, they knew nothing about the charge and nor did we. Good work Department of Transport. For quite a few weeks there was no charge. My crossing on the 7th got paid for by an earlier hirer who apparently overpaid!.All of this mess could be avoided if when I made a payment online I was presented with a list of currently unpaid crossings for the vehicle and I could chose which of those crossings my payment would be set against. Thanks in advance and well done in creating this forum!Hi – Thanks for the message. Since the change in layout and then subsequent price increase it's no better, getting over the bridge from Essex to kent slightly less time consuming. I’m disgusted that the Dartford Crossing management should use the same tactics as the cowboy clampers ie inadequate signage. I have received no other communication from by email. I rarely use the crossing so why should I give money for an account used three or four times a year.Encouragement to pay is one thing, but collection of £105 for late payment of a few days of £2.50 ? its mad. What happens now, do they realise it’s been sold on a certain date and is no longer an exempt vehicle?
Anyone who’s travelled in France will recognise this name – it’s a sister company of the one that charges for toll roads there…Like all PCN’s they are not fines, they are invoices for alleged breach of contract and are unenforceable. The toll is only applied to those travelling between 6am and 10pm.Cyclists are not allowed to cross the bridge, but their bicycles can be carried by bridge transport services for free. Any adviceI have an account for using the crossing, it is a “manual” account which I keep topped up to an £10 balance. Great little earner considering the huge traffic numbers. Looks like congestion charge signs which just cannot be right…I had a dart charge account set up with my previous vehicle which had sufficient funds. Just over 6 months and we got a bill and at the same time a fine from a swedish company who deals with bills from Dartford. I remember this as I ridiculous made a debit card payment of something like 50p to bring my account to zero. OK, fair enough, the tags have been posted back recently. Now, this is where I’m a bit worried, as luck would have it, I need to use the crossing tomorrow. However ‘like Transport for London and its Congestion Charge, you will not be reminded to pay your toll by the I have noted and been saddened by the comments in your letter as I wrote to them in Leeds three weeks ago. Second time all went smooth transactions went through and that was it,my bank logo transaction was being verified as you can see on the computer screen then it said it was paid . There are no signs saying what has been going on. So we paid it again, as we didn’t want to receive a fine – this time a receipt was received. which we will – so the moral is as the gentleman on the phone says don’t use the online (I suppose it keep them in a job)What is the procedure if I entered a wrong letter in my car reg? What a joke of a service. Thanks again.TOTALLY UNFAIR and really upset about this Dart Charge. Good luck.as an overseas visitor I was disgusted to receive £90 worth of fines from Enterprise hire car for a return crossing on the same day…RipOff Britain at its best…1) Signage is appalling. It is widely agreed that signage is poor.Hello, I have just returned from the UK with the same problem. It was, until we bought it last month and it’s now not, and has been taxed. And we keep on bending over and taking it all day long.I came through the Tunnel on Wednesday evening on my way home to Suffolk. If this system is meant to be SO sophisticated, How can this happen ?
We’re currently producing a BBC1 Television series delving into the world of on the spot fines and we’d love to hear about what has happened – even if you are still appealing. They were really upset when they found out and wanted to pay but they had missed the deadline. Spoke to someone on the phone and all they could tell me was a letter had been sent and the details would be in the letter?I have the same experience, I were crossed 10th of October 2015, which I didn’t know there were a charge for crossing. They have also told us the system they are using in in alpha which I understand to mean if not really safe and has not been passed as being fully operational! Please sort it out Dart-charge and at least give us an email address or a phone number we can complain to. I’ve telephoned numerous times and now my credit card company in the U.S. is trying to get the second charge cancelled. I have sent emails telling them if I did not hear from them within 28 days, I would pay the charge of £5.00. This new service promises to help motorists beat these unfair penalties. Not from the UK? Have to write another letter, but what’s the point in that? It also has the ‘Warning Letter’ that gives 14 days to pay this and any other subsequent charges which will cancel all PCNs issued.Andy, your payment the day before might not be used against the ‘Warning Letter’ PCN. On 7th July I received a PCN which said if I paid the outstanding £2.50 fro 2nd June (strange as I had made 2 journies) within 14 days there would be no penalty charge. 4 weeks on I am still waiting. I used the crossing once and assumed payment would be taken. has this not be published both in advance and set out in large warning signs clearly along the road.By the way, I am retired and I consider £35 to be a lot of money.
