There’s a hat for everyone.”Rhodes took time in the middle of a busy afternoon this week to talk about her history and her hats, including that $769 beauty with hand-curled pheasant feathers on top.The $769 hat is handmade from milliner (hat maker) Carol Carr of Palm Beach, Florida, now a good friend of Rhodes and one of the retailer’s favorite designers.Those pheasant feathers come from Europe, and the hat includes a band and netting.Rhodes offers everyday hats for under $100, but among her designer, Steeplechase-worthy offerings, the boutique is selling an $89 orchid-colored hat of sinamay material.Rhodes has a $679 blue and yellow hand-tinted and tie-dyed layered hat with silk flowers and hand-cut feathers.Rhodes, a retailer since 2002, started going to Steeplechase that year, and she noticed that — unlike the Kentucky Derby — most women weren’t wearing hats at the Nashville event.“I saw an opportunity,” said Rhodes, a graduate of O’More College of Design.“I loved the idea of it, so I started researching hats and met with designers and milliners.”Rhodes said she doesn’t wear hats very often. Each race is a different length and has a number of challenges, such as the type of track (flat, brush and timber) and number of jumps.The Michael Stanley Stick Horse Race, presented by Phillips Toy Mart, is for children ages 3-10 and takes place on the track in front of the box seats after the second race.Between the sixth and seventh race is the Parade of Hounds.
